A Local’s Guide to Having the Most Incredible Summer in Golden
Golden, Colorado is so much more than Buffalo Bill and the famous Coors brewery. While those iconic attractions are worth a visit, the true heart of Golden lies in its hidden gems and local favorites. If you're seeking a summer filled with unforgettable experiences off the beaten path, this insider guide will help you uncover the best that Golden has to offer.
Watch 4th of July Fireworks from South Table Mountain
This was one of my absolute favorite memories from this summer in Golden. Watching the Denver skyline light up with firework displays across the whole city was unreal. Here’s what you need to know if you want to join in the future. The best viewing point is at Carl’s Point, which is part of the Basalt Cap Loop, on South Table Mountain in Golden, CO. Although it can get crowded, there’s enough space to bring a chair or a blanket. And the views are spectacular. It is a bit of a hike to get there, so wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
Tube Clear Creek to the Golden Mill
There’s no better way to spend a summer afternoon than floating down a river. But this isn’t your typical lazy river. Clear Creek is a fast paced, thrilling ride that will keep you guessing around every corner. The float conveniently ends at one of the towns most popular breweries, the Golden Mill, which welcomes tubers in need of a drink and a bite.

All Things Red Rocks Park & Amphitheater
Did you know there’s more to red rocks than just epic concerts. Take advantage of everything Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater has to offer in the summer months - concerts, yoga, hikes, even free workouts, which the locals take advantage of when the theater is not in use. There’s no other venue like this in the country, so make the most out of it while summer lasts.

Drive Lookout Mountain Road to Windy Saddle Park
If you want to gain some elevation without going on a hike or leaving town, then I’d recommend driving up to Windy Saddle Park. It’s an easy 10 minute drive from downtown Golden with stunning views of the front range. There’s a fairly small parking lot at the top, but people filter in and out pretty quickly. There are a few hiking trails that start at the park, but if you’d looking for something short, I would do the Mt. Zion Trail. I’d also recommend checking out the Buffalo Bill Museum further up the road while you’re there.
Golden Farmers Market
Grab a coffee, some local baked goods, or fresh produce and take in all the sights and smells of the Golden farmers market. It has everything any typical market would have including locally made products and seasonal food. The market takes place every Saturday morning, starting at 9:00am, lasting from June through October. Be like a local and sit along Clear Creek afterwards and watch the free entertainment of all the tubers going down the river.
Boulder or Rock Climb Clear Creek Canyon
Looking for something a little more intense? Golden has that too! Clear Creek Canyon isn’t just a popular destination for tubers, but rock climbers as well. If you’re not an experienced climber and you’re looking for a guide, check out Front Range Climbing Co. My partner and I booked through the Front Range Climbing Co for rock climbing at Garden of the Gods and it was an awesome experience. Would recommend them for climbing at Clear Creek as well if you’re wanting to add some adventure to your visit.
Bike to Golden’s Iconic Castle Rock
Golden is a mountain bikers paradise! There are so many trails that cater to different levels of ability. One of my favorite rides was biking across South Table Mountain to Castle Rock (pictured above). It’s fairly easy since the mountain is flat on top making it easy to explore and go on longer rides. Not to mention the views from the top are pretty cool.
Hike the Enchanted Forest Trail
I must say, this trail does in fact feel magical. Unlike other trails in Golden, this trail provides plenty of shade which keeps you cool in the hotter months making the hike much more enjoyable. It’s a moderate hike that takes you down to a forested section of Apex park. Check out the trail on All Trails to get more information before you go!

Surrounded by natural beauty, you can kick back with a cold beer or a craft cocktail and enjoy the fresh mountain air. It’s the perfect spot for a post-hike drink.
Golden Sweets
What’s summer without a sweet treat to cool you down? Ice cream instantly makes a warm day ten times better, and Golden Sweets is the perfect place to satisfy those cravings. Located right in the heart of downtown Golden, this charming shop has been a local favorite for years, offering a nostalgic vibe that makes you feel like a kid again. They also sell hand-crafted chocolates that are hard to resist. Whether you're strolling through town, hiking nearby trails, or simply soaking in the summer sun, a stop at Golden Sweets is a must.

If you’re looking for an alternative to ice cream, frozen yogurt is the perfect option, and Goozell Yogurt and Coffee is one of the best spots in Golden to get your fix. With a wide variety of delicious froyo flavors, it’s easy to see why this place has become a local favorite. Whether you’re craving something fruity or something rich and decadent, Goozell has something to satisfy every palate. One of the best parts about visiting Goozell is the endless array of fun toppings. From fresh fruit to candies and crunchy nuts, you can create a custom treat every time.
