Glenwood Springs, CO - The Perfect Winter Weekend Getaway

Wanting to plan a hot springs trip in Colorado? Waste no further time and book at Iron Mountain Hot Spring in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This mountain town located about 2.5 hours outside of Denver is the perfect getaway for families, friends, and couples.

Iron Mountain Hot Spring

Our first Colorado hot springs weekend trip in December is going to be hard to beat. We did a one night stay in the town of Glenwood Springs, leaving the Denver metro area in the early afternoon arriving a few hours before our reserved time slot at Iron Mountain Hot Spring at 4pm. We purchased the 3 hour soak, general access tickets, which I thought was plenty of time and had an excellent selection of pools to choose from. I would recommend booking a time in the early evening to watch the sunset from the springs, which is what we did. Get there a few minutes before your time slot so you have time to check in and get changed. Towels are provided, so no need to bring your own. The resort also has water bottle filling stations, so bring a water bottle as well.

Soaking in natural hot springs is the perfect way to unwind after a long week or after a strenuous hike to sooth your tired muscles. Each pool is a different temperature, so you can easily find a pool that’s right for you. I must say, some pools were way too hot for me and I couldn’t stay in them more than a few minutes. The cold December air kept me from overheating which is why I would recommend going in the winter, it’s the perfect balance. Otherwise, no complaints from me! The views from the Iron Mountain Hot Springs were breathtaking. There were even some pools right on the edge of the river which were very popular among guests. They even have a bar where you can purchase drinks if you’re really wanting to let loose. Would 10/10 recommend this spa and can’t wait to go back!

Downtown Glenwood Springs

Glenwood Springs is a small, charming town tucked away in the mountains along the Colorado River. There are a number of shops, restaurants, and lodging available for visitors. Other attractions include the Glenwood Gondola, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, Fairy Caves, and Two Rivers Park. We stayed at Glenwood Springs Cedar Lodge, which I found to be reasonably priced and comfortable for one overnight trip. For meals, we took advantage of the free breakfast at the hotel and for dinner we ordered burgers at the Grind which was excellent.

Treff Coffee Shop, Vail

On the drive back home, we stopped at vail and took ourselves on a tour of the famous ski village. We made a stop at the Treff Coffee Shop for coffee and pastries before walking around the village and checking out all the shops. Originally we were planning to hike the frozen Rifle Ice Caves near Glenwood springs, but the weather was not permitting so we spent the day in vail instead. Hanging Lake is another popular tourist attraction for Glenwood Springs visitors, although permits are required so plan accordingly.

This weekend trip was absolutely incredible. Getting to and from the springs from Denver was pretty easy. I would love to go back in the summer or fall when it’s warm enough to check out some of the other nearby attractions. See you soon Glenwood Springs!
